Bohemian Rhapsody Canvas Wall Hanging!

Yesterday marked a milestone in my middle daughter, Caitlyn's life.  She made her 8th grade confirmation!  We are so proud of her.  Out of all the kids in her class, Caitlyn was asked to bring up the gifts during Mass, too.  What an honor!  I felt like the "regular" gift just wouldn't do for this occasion so I got out some supplies to make her something special!

I started this project with a 8 x 10" canvas that I painted with ivory acrylic paint.  While that was drying, I started printing out my papers and embellishments.  I used the Bohemian Rhapsody Scrapbook Pack by Quirky Twerp over at The DigiChick Boutique.  It's hard to find everything you "need" for a project, especially a project that you want to really reflect that person's personality.  I was so happy when I found this pack! 

First, I printed out the Vintage Frame onto ivory cardstock.  I resized the image to fit the front of the canvas.  After trimming out the middle, I inked all edges using Antique Linen distress ink and the sponge.  Using Modge Podge, I glue this onto the front of my canvas.  While this was cut out the embellishments I printed - music swirls & brackets, ceramic floral cameo & the letters to spell Caitlyn's name.

Using the Rolled Flowers Tutorial on Splitcoaststampers, I made the flowers that are in both corners.  Here is a close up of the lower left-hand corner.

First, I cut out the music swirls, inked up the edges and glued that into place.  I applied the rhinestone flourish and then used Glue Dots to adhere the rolled flowers into place.  I used paper I printed from the scrapbook kit to make the flowers.  Aren't they cool?  I also used some of that same paper and cut the decorative edging using my a new Tim Holtz die that I got the other day.  This die worked great in my Wizard! 

 

Here is a close-up of the upper right-hand corner.  More rolled flowers and music swirls but you can also see the Ceramic Floral Cameo that I printed out!  Yes, that is a hybrid element!  I printed it onto cardstock and applied some Liquid Laminate.  After it dried, I cut out the cameo and it looks so real!  I also printed out Caitlyn's name and applied some Rock Candy Distress Stickles.

This was a super fun project to make and Caitlyn loved it!  She just kept looking at it and smiling!  That always make a Mother happy, doesn't it!  I will be back tomorrow with a great girlie card using DRS Designs images!  Have a great Monday!


 

When Nothing Goes Right......

This week I have been working on samples using new releases from DRS Designs.  This is one of the cards I made using a new release!  This stamp describes some of my days lately.  I used the When Nothing Goes Right greeting and for the stamped background I used Design Dots.  The patterned paper strip is from October Afternoon Thrift Shop Collection. 

Here is another card I made that would be great for a boy!

The sentiment is a new release called Out of This World Birthday greeting.  I stamped the To The Moon image using Tuxedo Black memento ink pad and colored it in with Copic Markers.  I added some shimmer using a Sakura Gelly Roll pen but its kinda hard to see.  The background is stamped using Versamark ink pad and the Starry Background.  The ribbon is from my stash!

Heidi's Flowers!

My friend, Heidi Blankenship, came up with this cool technique for making flowers using Baby Wipes!  Here is what mine look like.

Happy Mother's Day!

Well, I sure hope you had a Happy Mother's Day whether you are the mother or just celebrating Mother's day with your mom!  I had a great day.  I spent it with my mom and girls.   They pampered me very nicely, thank you!

Here is the card I made for my mom.  She laughed out loud when she read it!

This is a new release from DRS Designs called I Said So Mother's Day Greeting that I stamped and cut/embossed using a Labels 1 die template from Spellbinders.  I think its funny especially in our situation.  The background was stamped using Tattered Rose Distress ink pad and the Silhouette Branch Background stamp.  The patterned paper is from October Afternoon Thrift Shop line.  I used the Fair Isle Borderabilities for the bottom detail on the patterned paper.  I punched a slit into my sentiment panel and threaded some ribbon and tied a knot.  This is a great sketch to use for almost any card.  You can change things up pretty easily by using different stamps, paper and embellishments.  

Last year at this time, things were not very good for our family.  My dad had entered into Hospice care and was confined to a hospital bed in the front room of the house.  While we had tons of family and friends visiting, I tried to make a nice dinner for my mom.  I am so glad that this year was much better.  I miss my dad a ton but I am glad he is not suffering anymore and is at home with Jesus.  Please pray for my mom and my family this coming week, okay?  The one year anniversary is almost here and its a tough time.  Thanks!  

 

Pretty Flowers!

Here are a couple of cards I have made over the past few weeks that I haven't shared with you.  I don't normally purchase pre-made flowers but when you see these, you will totally understand!

See what I mean?  These flowers are from Prima.  They are just beautiful!  The stamped sentiments are from Verve stamps and the rhinestone flourishes are from Zva Creative.

Featured Stamper Challenge

Every Sunday on Splitcoaststamper there is a challenge called Featured Stamper.  One stamper is picked and you look at her gallery and CASE a card or project of this stamper.  Well, while Sunday was a super busy day, I did find the time to make a card but I didn't find the time to upload it!  So here it is now!

I used this great new stamp I just got from Memory Box called Inspire Butterfly Collage.  Isn't it a beauty?  You know I am a sucker for anything with butterflies on it!  This was such a simple card to make because I didn't have to think of a layout.  I just used my favorite colors, stamped the image, colored with copics and finished the card!  Cool!  I hope you have a great Monday!
